Vaping and the potential to cause chest problems.

Invictus I disagree.
The difference is, IMO, the contractor has a safety consultant and the Boss of the computer company does not.
If I was their advisor I would introduce a similar policy and recommend it is followed.
If he refuses to accept it I would not stay as his adviser.

That's my point they have to want to change, before change is possible. The safety advisor role is to advise, it is then up to the company to accept the advise or not. Just because you threaten to walk away would make no difference to them. If it is advice that has legal backing then you have to inform them, but this subject has no legal backing just a moral one and companies have problems complying to the legal ones.

You interpreted my post incorrectly, I would not threaten to walk away, I would walk away.
I do not work for anyone who does not take my advice, whether from a legal standpoint or not.
I have done it before and may do it again.

If I left a job or turned down work because someone failed to act on advice, id probably be permanently unemployed. Im an advisor...cant force people to take such advice in all cases :)

Stonecold, I am self employed and not desperate for work, I find it much better for me not to have to argue with clients who do not see the sense in good safety practices, and I don't get frustrated by working with people who do not really want me to advise but just to use my name as safety adviser.
If everyone acted like myself clients and employers would either be very safety conscious or not have any safety advisers.
It works for me.

Not really a surprise in the news today, that the report stating that vaping was 95% safer than smoking was in fact paid for by the manufacturers of vaping devices, some of which are the tobacco industry.
The tobacco industry would surely never deceive the public for the sake of profit.
Remember "Smoke, its good for your throat" & "soothing for asthma"

Although I readily admit I have no experience of using these devices, and therefore stand to be corrected, I understand that they tend to use glycol as a carrier solvent, so users presumably are at no risk of freezing up on a cold day. I also understand that there is some research that suggests that they are not the safe alternative to smoking we were given to understand.

Of course they would have advisers. Money talks. Morality is silent.
