All, I'm in the process of hopefully completing my IPD by the end of the year. Then apply for my peer review in the new year, I've reviewed the core questions on the internet but have heard these are about to change. Does any of my peers know if this is true and when it is due to happen (or has it already happened), also if they are changing will IOSH make them available for us candidates entering the interview process? Thanks for help

Yes the questions are changing and no they will not be available. The questions as they stand used to be available on the IOSH website legitimately, but they were removed as candidates were entering the interview with the completed forms, so it was being abused. They made the decision to remove them and they should no longer be made available. It's a bit dangerous getting off people from the internet you don't know they are the legitimate questions and it could be leading you up the wrong path. You would be wise to speak to your branch EDA, or if you want to e-mail me I will be happy to help with any questions you may have regarding the process, being an EDA myself. The new questions sets will be next year. You could always get a wriggle on and try for an interview this year. Ang.

Hi Further to the last post, yes the questions will be changing and IOSH as we speak are running sessions for peer to peer panel members to explain the new process. I personally am not in favor of knowing the questions in advance, if you have managed to get to the interview progress you must have a good working knowledge of the health and safety sector, so you should be able to answer all the questions. There are no trick questions, and supplementary questions are asked to draw the answer out of you if you are struggling. I think it makes a nonsense of the process if you know the questions in advance. Rely on your knowledge and experience and that will get you through. Good luck

I found Peer Review tough. Last year I knew the questions in advance, and still failed! Seven years of HS management knowledge and experience didn't get me through. While I planned my answers in depth, I misunderstood what the panel wanted to hear in some instances. But I didn't give up and applied again, networked a bit to gain more understanding of certain terminology and how to put across what I knew and had done, and was made up to CMIOSH last week.

Just be yourself in your interview, just use examples you have used in your own work experience. The panel will know you are nervous, mine was tough nothing more than I expected as the panel have a copy of your CV and SDP and they are making sure you have knowledge to the work you have submitted.

Hi Guys and Gals I am very interested in starting my IPD, I understand i need to complete an open assesesment and peer interview, how long do you get to complete your IPD, assesesments and if you fail these how soon can you retake/do? Thanks

bally clover - if you PM me your e-mail address I will send over the information you require. Too much to put on here. Safety Man 1 - the panel do not get a copy of your SDP, just your presentation and CV. Ballyclover would not be doing SDP as he is doing the open assessment as I am assuming he has come the NVQ route and not diploma route. But you are quite right we know everyone is nervous, after all we have done it too. And of course we are ensuring that you have done everything you say you have done, that is really the purpose of the interview. Congratulations Robert J I

Hi Angeles I can assure you they do get a copy of your SDP, they had a copy of mine at my interview which they could tell me what evidence I had produced. Merry Christmas Safetyman1

Hi The questions which will replace the current ones are still only to find out what you have done and what your understanding of the various requirements are. As a panel member I know that we are all there to support you to hopefully the next step of your progression and not, to make it awkward for you. I do find from experience that where candidates have the answers pre-planned it puts them off answering the question asked as it may have been asked in a slightly different way as a subsidiary question so I think it will benefit candidates by not knowing them pre-interview. We do not get to know anything before interviewing candidates other than the presentation and cv so we base everything on the experience you tell us about as part of the answers but taking in to account that it is nerve wracking so support and guide where we can. Good luck to all with the interviews and for the future aspirations.

Darren, Thanks for your encouragement and insights of the interview session. I am currently getting my CPD up to date and yes when I think about preparing for the interview I get nervous!! I am looking over the IOSH Code of Conduct to be more familiar with it. Any other pointers....other then just being myself??? A Very Happy New Year to all!!
