Revision to NVQ 5 Health & Safety Practice

I am currently reviewing proposed changes to the nvq 5. I wondered if other members and forum users were also part of this consultation and wanted to share views on the proposed changes. Similarly those who are not party to the changes but have a view on the level 5 as it stands or what it needs.

I'm also reviewing the proposals for change to NVQ 5, they are interesting proposals but i'm disappointed to see no movement on L6 as yet from C&G.
My advice to potential candidates might be to enroll and make sure you are registered before September 16!!

Yes dissapointed at there being no level 6. Im bracing myself for the questions as to why 2 level 5s will be so different. With this new proposal having 16 mandatory units and a project i can see the logic in your statement. I cant see how though im going to explain the difference to employers and candidates alike.

hi
I think what I am saying is right, but please correct me if its a bit wrong.
All NVQs are being re-written to meet the NOS, so the standards do have to change. I don't believe there is enough level 6 material in the re-write to increase its level from a 5 to a 6, but there is enough included to meet the IOSH membership criterion for Grad.IOSH status.
The fact that it becomes not wholly work-based and is increasing in size is commercially scary, some assessors will find that they have to work as a team to assess these new standards.
I am hoping that they do make some units optional - there is a prosecutions unit and a control of contractors unit. There won't be many job roles that a person actually does both of those actions with enough regularity to provide evidence on competence. It is nice to see that behavioural and inductions are being given a larger part in the qualification.
regards
Linda

I am pretty sure you are right. I worry that the information I have been given shows all units as mandatory! This would set the new level 5 as very different to the existing one. I can't see that all the units are achievable and I would have my doubts about delivery and assessment as well.
Watch this space I feel there's some mileage in this
