Dear Friends of the health and safety industry,
I have been looking for a trainee positions, advisor, manager in the construction industry. I don't seem to have any luck with it. I come from medical background with a lot of managerial experience, and also health and safety within the medical side.

I completed my NGC , BUT NOT SURE WHERE TO START.
Please can one of u advice or offer me a volunteer placement to begin my life in construction

Hi beaulah,

As I think you have already identified, a lack of any experience in construction is causing you to be overlooked by recruiters.

Now there are options from the Nebosh Construction certificate to looking at volunteer placements. In my experience there are not too many volunteer opportunities in this sector, and training will only get you part way. Experience is highly valued and there isn't really a shortcut to this.

You say you have experience in health & safety within the medical field - have you considered pursuing this route? Your experience will be very highly valued, whereas in construction you will be starting form scratch and competing against those who have already achieved a great deal of experience.

However, as my father always says: 'If there's a will there's a way'. So if this is what you want go for it, and good luck!
