IOSH Managing Safely certificate benefit?

What is the benefit for having IOSH Managing Safely certificate? Will it help me change my membership category? Or just something to look good for your CV?

It's useful for a general management job... But not an H&S job.

Is designed as a base level course to give managers a grounding in OH&S Management

I see. So it doesn't help me get into H&S. I'll just stick to getting NEBOSH Certificate.

H&S is a chartered profession, the HSE has issues around poor standards.. I suggest that to get into H&S you need a suitable level NVQ (level 5 ? With current qcf levels), or a nebosh diploma...

And of coure IPD leading to CPD

Hard work but worth it...

Can I just pick you up on the NVQ level 5 suggestion. An NVQ can only be undertaken by someone who is already working in that role and has sufficient experience. It is NOT training, it is an assessment of competence and candidates should only be accepted if they have this.

Therefore, I would suggest that you continue with the certificate and then look to moving into a lower level H&S job (most likely with a senior memeber to support) where you can build up the experience for the NVQ. Or you look at moving onto a Diploma (British Safety Council or NEBOSH, for example), or look at universities for a relevant degree in occupational safety and Health.

Just a follow up - yes agreed regarding the NVQ route if you are not in - or cannot have H&S duties included in your role. if you already have a degree an MSc is also an option.
