Hi,

We've had our noise surveys redone recently and they're showing that a number of the internal walkway routes to offices etc are at second action level. Howver, the duration of exposure of low (we're probably talking <30m a day total exposure as people walk from one place to another). So, mandatory hearing protection or not? Just looking to see what other people do in similar situations to this. Personally, my initial thoughts are to conduct the risk assessment and use the argument that because of the low duration of exposure hearing protection isnt necessary but I'm happy to be corrected on this.

Our noise survey designated an area as advisory. The walkway that runs past it is not due to the fact people are in the advisory area for such a short period of time and quite infrequently. As long as the period of time there is short and not too frequent I would be inclined to say that hearing protection would not be required. I will be interested to hear other opinions.
