Hi all, Looking for some advice. Is there a requirement to earth a plastic IBC bund to protect against static electricity if the IBC on top of it is holding/discharging flammable substances? If so, how would you go about earting such a bund? Would it require a conductive metal cage surrounding it connected to earth? Thanks in advance

The requirement for earthing will be for the IBC holding the flammable liquid and any connecting pipework associated with it and not the bund it is sat on/in.. So hopefully, the IBC being used is of a suitable construction for use with flammable liquids, and therefore conductive. This should be confirmed. So to earth it, you shouldn't be reliant of the earthing being achieved via the bund that it is placed on - that is not good practice as it can't be assured. How do you know the floor it's sat on is suitably anti-static in nature? The solution is, however easy. Connect the IBC to a tested and maintained earthing point.using a flexible cable and clip arrangement. Simple, effective and low cost. Hope it helps.

Hi, That does help thanks. The IBC itself is earthed via a cable attached to the metal frame. My question was about the static produced for example by personnel brushing past the bund and creating a charge, which I think you have answered. Cheers
