Hi all,

We currently have a colleague at work with a weakened immune system due to medication he is taking for an underlying medical condition. We already have a risk assessment in place to support him, but I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experience managing similar situations.

How have you approached this type of risk, and are there any additional measures you would recommend?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Jake

Be careful with any time and attendance systems as they could be more prone to picking up infections (frequent absence) most people would shrug off and take longer to recover (protracted / total asbence).

Depending on the treatment they may also need to accept precriptions at work where no one is at home - many cytotoxins require specifically named recipients some require full time refrigeration.

Think about your policy on allowing them to work from home if possible during outbreaks of illnesses that they may be prone to. This could help reduce potential sickness absence for them

I have a compromised immune system, following immunotherapy treatment for Melanmas (Stage 4). As long as you've done a Risk Assessment, and listen when the person says he's feeling "off", I don't think you need to overthink the 'situation'.

I'm lucky - compromised for 8 years, and no problems, except for additional Covid19 jabs
