Posted By peter gotch This is an update on my message of 13 July 2001, giving details of current vacancies. To those of you who have responded to our previous postings, but who have not yet had any final positive or negative response, please bear with me. We have appointed 4 new regional H&S advisers in the last 6 weeks (including 2 identified through this forum) and things are still moving on!! Babtie Group is a 3000 strong technical and management consultancy with offices throughout the UK and overseas. We advise clients in a wide range of industries including power, transport, utilities, healthcare, education, docks, mines, prisons, defence and waste management. More details at www.babtie.com Our health and safety resources include 17 staff, 11 of whom are corporate members of IOSH whilst we also have specialists in disciplines such as ergonomics, UKAS asbestos laboratory, legionella assessments, together with a strong team of environmental scientists. We are expanding our team via recruitment and internal development. To enable better coordination of our expanded H&S capability we are setting up a separate business unit, and reallocating staff some of whom are currently located within our Corporate Services unit. At the present time our occupational health and safety advisers spend on average roughly 1/3 of their time supporting Babtie, and the rest on providing consultancy and training services to external clients. As the team continues to expand the proportion of time devoted to supporting our internal client will logically diminish. This gives rise to concern, not least at Chairman and Chief Executive level, that we could take our eye off the ball as regards our most important client, ie Babtie. Hence the following appointment: Corporate Health and Safety Adviser The post holder will take over the top priority function of heading up the delivery of health and safety advisory services to our internal client Likely to have at least 5 years’ H&S experience and to be MIOSH status, and preferably located at our Head Office in Glasgow the postholder will report to our Chief Executive. As the only adviser dedicated full time to our internal client, the successful candidate will be expected to procure adequate H&S advisory services from our H&S business unit (and other appropriate resources within the Group or outside). We envisage that this would include managing the input of 3-4 full time equivalent H&S Advisers at various levels of experience, qualifications and expertise. The post holder will procure training and advice for and our staff on issues such as lone working, radiation, noise, ground contamination, diving, abseiling, and demolition. They will also be responsible for ongoing development of our health and safety management systems and supporting guidance. Regional Health and Safety Adviser (South West) To be based in at our Exeter, Cardiff, Telford, or possibly, Reading or Birmingham offices, and to provide advice and training both to our own staff, and to clients. Suitable candidates are likely to have reached at least TechSP status, and may come from a wide range of backgrounds, possibly with H&S as a second career. Experience of construction, or ability to input into our safety case and fire safety work, desirable but not essential. Other vacancies We are still looking to further expand our safety case and fire safety capabilities. For more details, see my message of 30 May on this forum. If you are interested in any of these positions, please send your CV to me preferably by email to peter.gotch@babtie.com or by post to Babtie Group Ltd., 95 Bothwell Street, Glasgow G2 7HX If you have already responded to our recent ads in the press or my previous postings on this forum, there is no need to reapply. Regards, Peter
