Posted By J.M.Armstrong Hello All, I have just passed the NEBOSH certificate with a distinction and am looking to try and study for the Diploma Part 1. However although I deal with Health and Safety daily as part of my job (technician in a chemical manufacturing plant) I am not a practitioner. I carry out Risk and Coshh assessment as well as maintain and test the fixed fire systems etc. I wont be able to get time off work to do the Diploma so am looking at Open/Distance learning options. I live and work in the North East of England and would be interested to see if anyone has followed a similar path and could pass on any advice as to the best way to proceed. Also, I have looked at the IOSH site regarding Tech SP membership which is Diploma Part 1 plus two years experience, what kind of experience is required?, if I passed the part 1 would I still be struggling for Tech SP if I havent worked as a practitioner?. Lastly is the British Safety Council Diploma an option worth following and does anyone know if it can be studied by distance learning? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks Michael

Posted By Lewis T Roberts Michael, Michael, You may want to look at the NVQ 4 route in your situation. The advantages are cost effective, time efficient and the entitlement of MIOSH designatory letters.

Posted By Charlie Gunter To obtain an NVQ you have to be doing the job. If you are not a safety practioner you can't complete a safety practioner NVQ

Posted By Lewis T Roberts Charlie, After reading the request, I was under the impression that Michael was carrying out the function of a safety practitioner for some of his time. If he wasn't what was the point of the certificate. And in any case that would be for him to demonstrate with a little more information to the evaluating body. Paul
