Posted By Peter Lee Majority of job adverts in SHP magazine ask for NEBOSH Diploma, depends what you want really. Do a search on these forums there has been many a debate on this subject, personally I went for NEBOSH route.

Posted By Phil Hannah Thanks for the replies.Personally i would like to go the nebosh route .most jobs i have seen advertised require nebosh dip. or equivalent i'm assuming that means a nvq level4.Plus there is the cost factor i'm probably going to pay for this my self as the company is dragging it's heels.i can go the nvq route and it will only cost £650 compared to £1000's for the nebosh. phil hannah

Posted By Kelvin George Phil To do the NVQ route, I think but not positive about, you have to be working and possibly get your company to sponsor you, but with NEBOSH you can definitely self fund and if you find a college close by then you should be able to do the course for about £900 - £1000. This would be day release once a week. Best of luck and if you do go to a college make sure that they get the RRC licence and give you the course notes because they are excellent. Cheers Kelvin

Posted By james mackie I have completed my Diploma but also almost finished my NVQ 4. From my personal point of view, I have learn more about how to do the job doing my NVQ 4 as with the Diploma it was mainly reciting health and safety in the NEBOSH language. Wolverhampton College £380 or I believe Telford is about £300 for the NVQ 4. Good luck which ever one you choose. jim

Posted By Mike Miller Quite fankly there's nothing in a name! NEBOSH, NTU or NVQ4 all will get you MIOSH Its a question of what you can afford if your self funded. Companies generally ask for NEBOSH or equivalent. I took the NTU route as it has an environmental module and it was a 3rd of the price of NEBOSH. Good luck in your choice Mike

Posted By Mark1 Telford College does the NVQ4 at £210, and the quality of teaching is great! I would go for the NVQ4, far more enjoyable. A lot of people ask for the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, i.e. NVQ4!

Posted By Baz Broomhead I am going down the NVQ route myself. Reasons are, definitley the cheaper option, and has a more flexible approach. It may not have the same kudos as the nebosh Diplomas, but do I care? I will gain MIOSH membership just the same. Baz

Posted By Karl Newcombe Hi Phil I have a NVQ level 3 OH&S Practice and just about to start my level 4. Like you I didnt know what route to take. The good thing about the NVQ route is: You have to be doing the role to do the course....and have the experiance to collect the evidence. Good luck mate! Karl

Posted By Ian stevenson Phil I think you will find the Dip 1 is equivalent to NVQ 3 this will get you TechSP as a starting point. If you belong to a trade union, management or otherwise it is free through the TUC education scheme. Regards ian
