Posted By Lisa Holmes I have been working for a large construction company for five years. I started out as a Site Secretary looking after the administration on site and have progressed to Office Manager with responsibility for daily site inductions, weekly supervisors inspections and maintaining H & S records. I am currently undertaking the NEBOSH Certificate and I am trying to gain practical experience. I am finding it hard to get away from the administration side of H & S and gain real experience on site. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Posted By Bernie Woods Lisa, The best thing I could suggest is that if you have anything like a "Personal Development Plan" within your organisation, you highlight this with your manager and ask to be developed in that area. Alternatively, keep your eye out for any Assistant Safety Officer/Manager jobs and follow it through that way. Just be aware, you may have to take one step back to go two forward. Hope that helps Regards Bernie

Posted By Lisa Holmes Bernie My appraisal is scheduled for next week so I will try and highlight my lack of practical experience. Unfortunately my company appear to be taking the attitude that H & S should be managed by the Project Managers on site and Health and Safety Advisor position are few and far between. Thanks for your help.
