About three years ago I became interested in Health and Safety due to a couple of 'live experiences'.
The company I was working for at the time used me as a front because of my interest but didn't feel the need to invest in a proper qualification so I went ahead and self funded myself on the NEBOSH construction certificate. After a lot of saving and headaches I passed in December 2003.
I have over fifteen years experience within the construction industry but have been unable to obtain even a hat trick of interviews thus far,let alone get a job.I know I can do a job if given the oppertunity,so how can I keep faith in the belief that someone will have faith in me.
P.S A quick thank you to Gavin.

Hi David
All I can tell you is to hang on in there, I am tying to!
Try and get some practical experience to go with it, even as a rep or become involved in the risk assessment & review processes in your current job role.
Have a look round at some of the agencies, they are not all the waste of space that they are alleged to be.
BTW where in the country are you? If we know that maybe we can offer some more specific advice.

Hi
Too true. Sometimes accepting something second best is a way in. Yes do say where you live.

David,
The market place is very busy at the moment, but client needs are always exceptionally specific. So unless you have everything they are looking for i.e. experience, qualifications and the right personality fit, then unfortunately you will not be invited for an interview.
However saying this I have worked with a good number of people who have gained a "step in" to the industry, so don't lose hope the right thing is just around the corner.

Well in the words of the song,
“Pick yourself up, dust your self off, and start all over again”.
I looked down the tunnel of a business I was running and after 5 years could not see the end. I spoke to a good friend who said to me if you can’t see the end of the tunnel then it’s probably time to retrace your steps and ‘get back into the sunshine’. I did and things turned out just fine.
Good advice is pivotal in times of anguish. My advice and I’m no Margery Proops is to seek the council of friends and family and any business acquaintances and even to the extent of seeking psychological counselling.
Cheer up don’t face this disappointment on your own, it will only give you unnecessary aggravation.
Richard
