Posted By Ian Mycroft In my organisation we employ contractors to service our street furniture i.e. bus stops etc. If one of these contractors is involved in RIDDOR reportable incident whilst servicing our equipment out on the public highway is it our responsibility to report it or the contract company? Also if member of the public is involved in a similar incident involving our equipment do we have to report.

Posted By Ciaran McAleenan Ian, The answer to your first question is that it is the person's employer (the contractor) that has the statutory obligation to report RIDDOR incidents to the HSE. You could, if you wished, check that the contractor has complied, reminding him that it is a legal requirement. Your second question in relation to members of the public killed or injured while on your property or using your facilities. In this instance it is your own organisation's responsibility to complete the appropriate RIDDOR paperwork. Regards Ciaran mailto: ciaran@confinedspaces.com
