Can my colleagues please advise me.
RIDDOR seems quite clear- one must report a case of a notifiable disease "WHEN A DOCTOR NOTIFIES YOU IN WRITING"- my questions are-
1) Define a doctor- ie does this include a GP (especially when an Occupational Physician gives an opposite view)?
2) Does the "advise" of an Occupational Health Nurse fall into the reportable category?
The reason I ask is that moving to an Occupational Health Nurse is threatening to swamp us with cases to report.

The Regulations refer to the written statement being made by a 'registered medical practitioner'. If the paper you receive clearly meets these criteria it would seem prudent to report to the enforcing authority.
