Posted By Richard Webber I refer you to The Joint Code of Practice on the Protection from Fire of Construction Sites and Buildings Undergoing Renovation. Section 8 of this code, entitled Fire Protection, encourages designers/principal contractors to progressively install risers and to provide temporary caps if necessary. Recently on a south coast contract the principal contractor was informed by the local Brigade that as the proposed riser would not be commissioned untill the whole building was complete, the Brigade would not use the temporary riser anyway. Has any one else come across this? Kind regards Richard

Posted By Ken Taylor I've no personal experience of this but find it quite interesting. I would have thought that, with some of the higher rise constructions, the brigade would be in some difficulty without use of risers. I suggest you try posing the question on the Fire Safety forum on www.fire.org to see what response you get from the fire fraternity.
