Dear Gurus

After lenghty, yet unsucessful telephone calls to the HSE Helpline, BSI and many, many signs and signals companies, I have yet to find out the answer to this question.

What should the colour coding of pipe work transporting ethanol from an underground storage tank to an intermediate mixing tank be?

Any ideas?

BS 1710: 1984 (1991) IDENTIFICATION OF PIPELINES AND SERVICES.
This scheme provides standard colours for basic identification and a system for establishing a colour code for site services. Where the substance carried in the pipe presents a hazard, additional markings are needed. In addition to the basic colour or code describing the contents of the pipeline, yellow coloured bands should be included at key points to indicate a warning. The yellow banding should be supplemented by a hazard warning sign and the name of the substance or nature of the hazard included as text. The key points are possible danger areas such as valves, joints and penetration points through partitions. Although the colour banding is not explicitly required by law the provision of the warning sign is a requirement of the HEALTH AND SAFETY (SAFETY SIGNS AND SIGNALS) REGULATIONS 1996 and the sign should be a yellow warning sign with appropriate pictogram as described above.
