As a company we work on a variety of construction sites and the question has been raised Is it permissible to wear bump caps? They are to EN812 standard, personally I don't feel they provide enough protection. I would wecome comments and does anyone know if there is an EN standard for PPE on construction sites?

A bump cap should only be worn to protect against bumping on surfaces and not as a safety helmet. The standard for safety helmets is BS EN 397 which states performance, and physical requirements and well as the methods of testing.
Therefore in answer to your query bump hats cannot be worn on sites when the area is designated a hard hat area.
