Posted By Taileuk While we believe that a safety audit helps to diagnose the safety management system of an enterprise or site; what are the essential elements to ensure the safety audit is effective and reliable?

Posted By Steve Armstrong Taileuk, Take a look at inset 15 of Chapter 6 of HS(G)65: Successful Health and Safety Management, which I beleives gives the information you are Looking for. Alternatively, check out Annex F - Audit: in BS800 1996,which gives further advice on audits. Obviously following this advice in itself will not make your audits effective. The advice needs to be tailored to your own operations, the personnel you employ and the premises/environment in which you carry out your work. In addition audits must be carried out independently of the area under audit and by competent personnel. Corrective actions identified must also be mplemented and closed out by responsible personnel and within agreed time-scales. Consideration should also be given to the frequency of auditing individual areas or activities, i.e., some areas and activities such as those which are safety critical or presenting high risks (e.g., risk assessment procedures compliance, work at height, hot work, etc.)will require auditing more often than areas such as say, health and safety policy reviews or low risk administrative activities. I hope this is of some help. Steve Armstrong.
