I work in the FE sector and we are having some issues with our sound studio. I am therefore looking for guidance or information on sound levels, recording and monitoring. The present lecture insists that he requires levels of up to 85db within the mixing room for short periods over an approximate 3hr time frame (2 x day). My principal concern is the possible damage to his and students hearing. Is the introduction of headphones (therefore reducing sound levels) a suitable control measure or is it possible to limit the output to below 85db.

Ive worked in radio broadcasting and have always insisted on limiters fitting to the headphone outputs of mixing desks and to studio monitors to protect peoples hearing while their in the studio. We alll like loud music but have to protect workers. You could possibly look at www.bbcsafety.co.uk i think thats the correct url. Auntie is usually good on these things. Ashley Williams
