Can any one recommend a training course for recently appointed Workplace Safety Representatives?
These representatives are non - trade union employees who have been directly elected into the positions.
The course needs to be in either the Manchester or Warrington area.
Any responses gratefully received to Brian.Peirce@uuplc.co.uk
Many thanks

There are dozens of companies offering safety training in the telephone book but it will cost thousands to be trained too the same standard as a Trades Union safety rep who has taken the courses offered by TUC education.
Trades Union H&S education is free to union safety reps.
I am neither pro or anti union but research has shown that a workplace with union safety reps has on average a fifty percent better acccident record than a similar business with no union safety reps.
The TUC certificate in OH&S is accepted by IOSH, and will enable you to apply for membership as TechSp.
I apologise to the training organisations for any distress this reply causes and look forward to some robust comment.

Why not send them to do NEBOSH Certificate? If the company pays and the reps go in their own time, then both are making an effort aren't they?
After all, partnership is the name of the game as far as safety reps are concerned.
Local colleges are quite reasonably priced.

Nick

I would suggest managing safely iosh as they are not accredited tuc reps via a recognised union. But it depends what role you want the reps to play in the set up!!!!

Try EEF/BTG on 01204 457711 or 01204 696744. They provide H&S training of the type that you are looking for in Preston, Bolton, Bury and Leigh. We used them for this training and it was OK.
Hope this helps
