The Safety Signs and Signals Regulations contains an "absolute duty" for employers to ensure that signs and signals are "comprehensible" by all their employees.
It is difficult to see how one would achieve this if employing someone whose first language was not English, unless you had access to information in their own language. I think for this reason, the offer of the original poster is welcome.
This is not to say that we have to start to put up signs in other languages - only that our UK/EU signs may need to be explained, where necessary.

I would be etremely interested if you have any of these remaining. Do you know if the HSE has any of the HASAW Law Posters available in Polish?

Pehalps the government could ensure people could read english for their own safety, before granting them a work permit...
Perhalps you should also consider training all your english staff in polish so they can shout at them when they are in danger?
Run !
Stop !
Get Out!
Switch Off!
Fire!
For goodnes sake stick to the european standard. That is the LAW.
You are not in the tourist industry trying to make them welcome!
Maybe you could be prosecuted in english (with polish translation) for confusing the english personnel!
H&S is tough enough without messing about with translations.

Its a bit patronising to assume any "foreigner" is so stupid that they need the sign translations even if their level of English is zero Which in my experience is unlikely). I see no safety sign that needs this reinforcement.
The PC brigade seem to me to be the worst enemy of the discriminated.

I know it is Friday.. but why dont we all buy left hand drive cars and start driving on the right to really make them feel at home? afterall won't that be safer for our visitors??
I do not expect everything in english or every country to drive on the left when I go or work abroad, so why should we be the only country in the world to change anything to accomodate the minority?
Seriously though, you could be exposing yourself to claims through confusion. By deviating from the existing EU standards. I Have done a lot of work on Human Factors and if local personnel cannot read the signage, they completely ignore it!

I have clients with Polish workers who do an excellent job (mainly in heavy engineering and they sweep up afterwards and clean down drills, benches etc without being told to) and I would be pleased to have a look at anything you have found useful to enhance safety regardless of nationality for anyone in workplaces in which I can make a contribution. I assume there are no copyright implications. Thanks for offering

Hi there guys,
I have just found a web site where you can generate safety signs, in your own language.
I have made some for me today.
Although there are some icons / pictograms missing, I have sent email to the webmaster. Hope he publishes them soon.

Kind regards,

David, please send me a copy too if you have the time!
I am seeing a client Tuesday who has 20% highly-skilled' Polish workers and they will be thrilled to see these signs I am sure.
Also, if you want to start a business venture give me a shout - I have several contacts who might be interested in making it work.
Regards GC

Hi safety bods,
If employees have a duty to look after themselves and others by what they do or don't do then surely if they don't learn the language to enable understanding are they complying ? I suppose the answer is that pictures are the universal language !

A bit closer to home, you try getting a CDM board in Welsh.
You'd think there was no building work going on in Wales.
