Posted By Ian Cook We've had an employee attend an eye test, and the result has come back with a tick next to the "incorporating a special prescription for VDU use". We normally only provide VDU glasses (or voucher) if the result comes back with the box ticked next to "VDU use only" - but apparently the form has changed and it now has an additional option on as above. Are we required to provide them with free glassses if the "incorporating a special prescription for VDU use" box is ticked? Can anyone shed some light on this for me?(I hesitated to use the phrase "open my eyes" on this one). cheers in advance.

Posted By Lilian McCartney There has previously been discussion as to whether full cost should be paid for bi/vari focal glasses when part is for DSE. I'm not sure if there has ever been a definitive answer. Where I work we give money towards the cost of bi/vari focal same allowance as to DSE only lenses. Lilian

Posted By Kevin Brown As with previous posters, our policy with bi- or varifocal prescriptions is to make a contribution equivalent to the cost of supplying basic single prescription glasses.

Posted By Ron Hunter paras 82 & 83 of L26 refer. It is recognised that there will be occasions when the employer will be requiired to provide bi-focal/varifocal lenses incorporating a specific prescription for DSE use, where the job demands it. Regulation 5(5): "Every employer shall ensure that each user employed by him is provided with special corrective appliances appropriate for the work being done by the user".
