Hi all.
Just a quick question would you class a chillsuit as ppe the reason i ask is we work in a chilled food enviroment and are being told it is classed as uniform. If this is the case we are told if we want a chillsuit we have to pay for it.
Thanks in advance
Mike.

It is PPE and you employer is obliged to provide it for you.

Agreed - definitely PPE and must be provided, maintained (including laundering) and paid for by the employer

Agree with others -- definitely PPE In fact was just putting my copy of L25 guidance in my training box for a course I am giving to supervisors on a major civils project as your posting came up. Page 3 item 8 says uniform for primary purpose of presenting a corporate image is not PPE and neither is clothing primarily for hygiene in food industry and item 9 says insulated clothing is PPE as protects against specific risk to employees. So you should get it free of charge, you could refuse to work without it and Reg 6 says an assessment must be carried out by the employer so ask to see it.

can I suggest that you 'hide' your e mail address - just a thought bearing in mind the circumstances of your post

Hi,
Not forgetting of course that it should have been selected following PPE risk assessment as an appropriate control measure. Consequently it is PPE and should be free of charge.
