Posted By andrew hill I am looking for a suitable chair/seat for a person suffering from severe arthritis who's current role is to stand for eight hours, with suitable breaks, in a manufacturing environment, trimming bruising off potatoes with a knife. Any help, suggestions or names of suppliers please much appreciated. You can leave a message on the forum or contact me on andrew.hill@mccain.co.uk, Many thanks

Posted By Richard Altoft I have the deepest sympathy and applaud your efforts to make this person comfortable. My only experience with specialists in chairs etc is POSTURITE who specialise in back problems. You could also try EMAS (Employment Medical Advisory Service or one of the arthritis charities or research groups. Surely this problem has been tackled before. Best of luck I hope you find a solution

Posted By MikeW Andrew, I'm afraid in these situations it's suck it and see. My advice would be to find an independent company who could review this particular employee and carry out an ergonomic assessment on his work/machine interaction. I recommend independent for two reasons. Firstly, because it's often best to build a profile for any future claim efforts and secondly, to identify the cause and best way forward. The assessor in conjunction with the occupational health professional/GP can normally work out a likely position of comfort and then identify a chair. The last resort is to find alternative work which prevents discomfort and any further pain. The independent assessor will be able to assess this for you and provide you with a report. There are many companies out there. In the past i have used a company called Greenyear (www.greenyear.co.uk). They are UK wide, cost effective and more than helpful. I know they have offices in Leicestershire and Wiltshire. I am unsure where you are and if they would be suitable for you. Alternatively i'd search the internet. I hope this helps Mike

Posted By andrew hill Thanks for all the help, we contacted Greenyear as suggested and they are coming to meet the employee and carry out an assessment.

Posted By Tanya Boyce I apologise for that dreadful post - blame serious exhaustion. I meant to say I have used Posturite. Always good service so far.

Posted By b12 Would also check out Access to Work. If eligible it would give you a free assessment and possibly a grant to help towards the cost.
