Hi All,
my question is it better to bend over to unlock a bolt on a door or to squat?

This question has gotten out of hand and wanted to float it to see if I am right or not.

I have ask for them to squat down and this is due to many reasons which include persons blaming the bending action the leading reason they are off.

many thanks

Is it unfeasable to raise the height of the bolt so neither bending nor squatting is required?

As you're not lifting anything, I don't think it makes any difference at all.

Dave, I was taught by an experienced physio that any "top heavy" bend could lead to back problems ... but he also said that life without bending down at all would be impracticable.

Robert - if the bolt is awkward or stiff, strain is easily put onto the back. Consider making the bolt as easy to use as possible.

I would probably find myself using the other hand to hold onto a handle or bar to steady myself, but I would :-)

...with my knackered knees - BEND!! :-)

Like the others said, move the bolt if you can. If not I'd say it's individual preference and sounds a little bit like you're going too far if you're looking at telling people how to reach down and open a bolt!
