I would be grateful if anyone has any references to research carried out on the use of Anti fatigue matting in retail environments? Do you have information supporting its use? Does it actually help? What are the proven advantages/health benefits etc. Other control measured to help with tired legs etc.
Sorry if this has been asked before - but I haven't easily found any information to date.

Thanks

LesLee, Helen,

Sadly I acnnot provide any sort of statistics to help.

However, the production enviroment here means that we have a number of these mats deployed. I have over the two years I've been with the company asked staff if the mats do help. The resounding response is always YES!

That said, I still consider other factors such as time in that position, function there (what they are doing), breaks and frequency of breaks, and some exercises that can help reduce fatigue/keep the blood flow going.

Hope this helps,

Adie

Many thanks for your comments - really useful. Yes we go through the same process. However with the current climate there are always areas to control costs and matting is expensive especially if you need to cover multiple locations. Research would be good to add weight to the case.

You comments are valued - many thanks.

Thank you Aide for you response, I am putting together a justification for purchasing some anti fatigue matting and there for need to have some sort of research/statistics to quote on the justification. All of our operators agree with that the mats do make a difference when they had them previously but unfortunately that is not enough for management to purchase them in this difficult financial climate.

Found this

http://multimedia.mmm.co...cf6lVs6EVs666ytICOrrrrQ-

and there's something on Gordon Cameron's blog about recent research...

http://scribble.scran.ac...er51343/weblog/4061.html

actual research (found through Google scholar)

http://www.sciencedirect...6dab915a618e347c37468a8d

plus a few more research papers from the same location;

^ and for those standing for prolonged periods on a production line on concrete floors, I'm sure they would happily swap places with you.
