Posted By David Matthew Having drawn a blank using the DVLA website, can anyone tell me if tracked excavators used in highway works have to have a licence plate as they travel on the highway as they progress down the various work sites? Regards David

Posted By Neil R In short yes, any vehicle that uses the live highway must be registered and display its registration number, also it must have functioning lights, brake lights and indicators.
Some tracked equipment isn't permitted on certain highways so it's best to check with the local authority too.

You need the reg no., tax, ins, license, & not forgetting a roadworthy vehicle.
Metal tracks can a definite no no with some LAs as they have a habit of tearing up tar when turning.
I would advise you check with both the LA & your ins co. for a comprehensive answer.
