Posted By Karen1 Hi
Does anyone have an RA for mobile shelving units, that I can use as a template for my own?

Posted By Karen1 Our HR dept is using the units for filing. I've already brought up them using steps instead of an elephant foot.

Posted By Ron Hunter Keep your filing lower down! First rule of R/A = eliminate the hazard. I'm still intrigued - what element of this task/equipment is "mobile"?

Posted By Scotty I would imagine that it is the actual shelving units that are mobile. Normally used by organisations who have loads and LOADS of filing. One filing shelf will move and lock onto the adjacent one to allow access to another set of files.
Karer, if I'm on the right track and you need more info, please email me.
Cheers!

Posted By Kevin Brown The main features of mobile shelving introduce floor-mounted tracks and the concept of a single gangway. One of the additional risks is someone moving the racking without first checking someones not already using it. You can't allow objects to overhang shelfs, you can't put anything on top. You can't leave anything in gangways, especially people. Ideally lighting should run at right angles to the gangways, to avoid dark areas. More chance of trip hazards, both from the tracks and anything getting caught in the system (such as nylon strapping). Basically, you need to beef up a Manual Handling assessment by introducing movement to the equation. You could (for example) manage risk by nominating a single user and locking the system when not in use.

Posted By Ron Hunter I get it now! The supplier is obliged to supply you with instructions for safe use and maintenance for that kind of kit (i.e. the Handbook). This should form the basis for your safe system of work via your R/A.

Posted By Bob Y I have an RA for mobile shelving as described by Kevin, it's rather out of date but I am sure it would be a reasonable starting point. If you let me have an e mail address I can forward to you
