I wondered if there is some one on this forum who can answer a query for me?

There is a large refurbishment project on the hospital site where i am, and a few outpatients have asked why all lights on the construction areas are left on 24/7, and when the contractor was asked why, the reply was it is down to insurance because if someone breaks in, and injuries themselves in the dark, they could be sued!!! is this correct? any help / guidance would be helpful.

Many thanks

Why not fit a sign outside stating "all burglars welcome"?

Site lighting is required during working hours, emargency lighting in areas where no natural or borrowed light is available.

Just switch off out of hours - don't burglars carry torches these days?

Stephen.

Check this out. Especially the 1984 part.

The lights maybe left on (at the insurance company request) to deter thieves and the association of a hospital under refurbishment with easy to steal and available drugs or expensive electrical equipment.
