There is a possibility I will be asked to run an IOSH Managing Safely course in Oman in 2010. With all delegates having good verbal and written English Skills (So hopefully no language issues).
However the problem for me is where to obtain information on general H&S law in Oman, to then compare with UK Law.
Can anyone help please?
Mike

Actually Mike, go to http://www.pdo.co.om/hse...ocumentation/hsedocs.htm and that will take you directly to PDO's directory of HSE Documentation. You will note that, as well as the company's HSE Management System Documentation, if you scroll down to the bottom you will find a section entitled 'Oman Laws' which references the Oman Labour Law and then under 'Ministerial Decisions' the Occupational Health & Industrial Safety Precautions dated 5/6/1982, which has now been superceded by a newer Ministerial Decree (286/2008). Let me know if you need a copy and I'll send you one. My advice - don't compare it to UK Law. It's a different ball game altogether. Most HSE standards are set by the big oil and gas/construction operators, such as PDO (Petroleum Development Oman, who I work for). Good luck Andrew

Mike; Few years ago I managed to get CITB to run Managing Safely in construction in Abu DHabi, at the time we had arranged for the course tutor to arive a couplke of days prior to the course and we injected the company specifics into the course content which include the company HSE policy, emergency response procedures and emergency numbers, the company specific PTW requirements, the road safety requirments and issues which are a main concern here and in Oman, we even provided fotos of the working environment which helped the attendees, I think you can follow the same way with whoever is facilitating the course for yourself. Good luck. Al

Mike, I have just taken our line managers through this course in Libya, and as long as the company you are representing has a comprehensive, standard HSE-MS (OGP 210 is a popular model in the oil industry) then that should be adequate, as the HSE-MS considers all applicable laws in the first instance, then OGP guidelines come into play as they are the industry authority (assuming that you are in the oil and gas sector), then PDO guidelines if your company is contracted with PDO.
