Wonder if anyone has any advice or references for safety in the inspection of small bridges (old types such as those found on single track roads). I want to know how you comply with the Working at Height regs without overkill?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

It very much depends on the location and the ease of access to the bridge. Ideally a mobile cherry picker or scissor lift should be used for inspection of bridges with a harness and harness training fro the operative(s). These MEWPs can be hired at quite reasonable rates.

Thanks Ray

Consider no access for cherry pickers etc. Inspectors walk along top (height of fall varies) but the parapets of the bridges may be very short in height - I suspect there may be some looking over the edge goes on. Access to bottom of bridge can be very tricky in some circumstances and is another issue to consider.
