They're a trade association set up to take over the list for training bodies formerly managed by HSE. Neither they, nor any other body, currently offers accreditation for asbestos training - the training bodies are either members of UKATA or not. They are attempting to set standards etc. and improve the quality of services offered by their members, but as ever let the buyer (of training services) beware.

Originally we used Bureau Veritas for Asbestos Awareness but I know they have undergone some organisational changes so I am not 100% sure if they still offer this. I also used http://www.aaa-training.com/ for some Asbestos Training and found their training staff very knowledgeable.

Hi I would say ARCA are the most recognised training provider www.arca.org.uk and they are helping to set the standards in this industry

UKATA is a not for profit organisation and is made up of Asbestos Training Companies, they have an exec committee, sub committess who are voted for each year. These people give up their own time to enhance the standard of asbestos training in the UK not just asbestos awareness but Licensed and unlicensed asbestos removal. There are only two people who get paid by UKATA (Debbie / Gill job share in the office) everyone else is a volunteer. Both ARCA and ACAD as well as the NFDC, have a permanent seat on this committee. Al persons who want to be 'accredited' to deliver asbestos training, have their courses, materials, venue (Licensed Training only) and trainers audited to ensure that they are competent, up to date, relevant, this is undertaken by Competent Asbestos Auditors who do not deliver asbestos training, so no bias, but have extensive knowledge of this subject. UKATA also have a representative on the Asbestos Liaison Group as well. Asbestos training is a very specilised subject and not everyone has this knowledge.
