I am researching a project on Airport safety and regulation and would appreciate advice on certain aspects.
I am particularly interested in discovering what legislation, regulations and governing bodies are applicable to civil airports. If possible I would be grateful for any advice or information on -
1. List of regulations / statutes / bodies responsible or applicable to civil airport terminals / landside within the airport boundary
2. As above but airside locations
3. Are there areas where the lines are blurred between say CAA and HSE responsibility / accountability
4. Regulations applicable to maintenance of airports EXCLUDING "air traffic engineering" work. For example maintenance of airport terminal buildings, hangers and other buildings but excluding systems associated with aircraft or air traffic.
5. Details of industry Health & Safety bodies i.e. IOSH / HSE etc that are relevant to airport H&S management.
Any other information, links to relevant forums etc
Thanks for your help

Hi Vinny, there is an Aviation section within IOSH. I will talk to one of my colleagues on Wednesday and see what I can get together for you. He is a senior H&S manager with the Irish airport operating company.

Hi Vinny
Couple of websites you could try:
www.caa.co.uk
www.icao.int
Or search for ICAO Aerodrome Design Manual or ICAO Annex 14

Vinny,
I note an article on page 26 of the July SHP mag. stating that a new DVD in airside safety has been commissioned by the AAG, funded by IOSH, with a launch event at RAF Museum, Hendon in late September.

Hi Vinny
Most of your questions can be answered in the resouces section of the Aviation and Aerospace Groups webpages:
http://www.iosh.co.uk/gr...and_aerospace_group.aspx
The HSE has Air Transport Pages that includes a Memorandum of Understanding with the CAA. Most of the information is for UK airports, it can can get more complicated once you head out of Europe.
Also, if you have a look under my user name you will see my other posts about building and associated work on airports.
Send me a PM if you want any offline information.
Ron - Well spotted! The DVD is now in post production and we have behind the scenes photos on our webpages. Further details of the launch (or should that be take off!!!???) will be posted on the site when they are finalised.
Brgds Rod
