Don't by from IKEA, they only offer items for sale it doesn't mean you have to by, or alternatively pay for delivery.
Whay I'm I even answering this posting, i must be mad, would you lokk at ASDA because you hurt yourself putting bgas in your car and hurt your back.
Has H&S really gone this far, maybe when you walk into a shop they should ask you what you intend to but and then you could have the option of paying for a manual handling course just in case people got hurt buying thier products.
If you buy sports euipment maybe you could have lessons in the sport for which the items were purchased. That's it I'm off to buy some swimming trunks and I can't even swim but I've informed my wife that if I drown it is the shops fault for not asking me if I can swim or offering me any training when I purchased them.

Barry
it is from Burns, the poem is 'To a Louse', it is the first line of the last verse, which translates as:
Oh, that God would give us the very smallest of gifts To be able to see ourselves as others see us It would save us from many mistakes and foolish thoughts We would change the way we look and gesture and to how and what we apply our time and attention.

Morning,
Sad person that I am, I have just checked the HSE prosecutions & notices websites and found nothing for IKEA in the last 5 years though I didn't check the history. This obviously does not mean that civil action has not been taken or that out of court settlements have not been arranged, just that the HSE have not been involved in any action.
As to the original question IKEA have a duty of care to their customers, if a customer is injured then I presume the duty manager would become involved and the circumstances reviewed. The duty manager may have the power to make appropriate compensation on the spot or may refer the customer to a central claim department. The customer has many options including taking civil action and informing the HSE.
I wish these posts had been able to demonstrate how dangerous going to IKEA is as then I could have used them with my wife and daughters to stop them going there, as it is only my wallet has been hurt from the various visits so far, but for a Yorkshireman that's more than pain enough.
Take Care All

Hi sean
Glad you weren't offended and i have seen you posting on here before i think possible Andyblue had his big wooden stick out. Still not sure if we have directly answered your question but i expect a lot of members will be off down Ikea at the weekend carrying out their own RA. my view from shopping in their is they do as much as they can to inform possible because of issue in the past of customers injuring themselves.
Also just to add the new store in Southampton you can take your trolley direct to your car. may be it was swedish thing to have the barriers but now they have learnt how us Brits like to shop
All the best Sean, interesting discussion.
Phil

Spelling has never been my strong point, but I think I'll take some time to read the thread before I post.

Don't forget this isn't an exact science (would that it were) and it is possible for an organisation to do everything that's reasonable/practicable in the execution of their duty of care and still loose a case in court.
