Hi, Is there any one out there who has experiance in welding in the commerical vehicles industry i.e. HGVs. My question relates to when coded welding would need to apply or does it? for example if a technician was carrying out minor welding on a trailer chassis, this may be a small crac, rust etc then, would this be classed as structurtal welding or merely cosmetic. What is the criteria thart would define when coded welders should be used ? Any guidence would be appreciated. Ian

The welding would have to be of a standard that was acceptable to the inspecters when having the plate test completed. That would be the test. When we have had welding conducted on the lorries used by the firm, we have never been questioned as to wether our welders are coded or not.
