COSHH assessments for high amount of hazardous substances on site

Can an anyone recommend any COSHH assessment courses? (not coshh awareness - require a more intense course) or willing to allow me to shadow them?
I am looking to gain knowledge on conducting COSHH assessments in the workplace with a high amount of hazardous
substances on site (Inks, varnishes, solvents). It would be beneficial to understand how risks to health are evaluated in this type of industry with the high amount of hazardous substances, individually or collectively? and what is the best method.
I am new to H&S and currently studying NEBOSH National General Certificate.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Its often better to assess the work process, rather than just concentrate on each individual hazardous substance. This can simplify/cut down on the number of assessments required.

Hi
I use to deliver this course on COSHH risk assessment https://www.britsafe.org/products/level-2-award-in-coshh-risk-assessment/ from the British Safety Council but I think to be able to do COSHH justice you need a certain level of scientific awareness as a well. Only then do you fully appreciate what the course was about. When I delivered it, the delegates were all trained scientists and understood the technical background. They just needed to know the nuts and bolts of the risk assessment process.

With risk assessment for COSHH what you need to assess is the hazard present during the actual task. When we use a chemical we generally change its properties and this can result in a very different hazard that what is on the safety data sheet. So risk assessment starts with the task, what happens during the task, what chemicals are used during the task, how they are used and the resultant hazard. There are thousands of chemicals that have not been assigned a hazard statement and may thus not appear on the safety data sheet but, if used during a task, may present a hazard, particularly where skin exposure is concerned. Anton de Groot, in his work on patch testing, lists 4,900 chemicals identified by dermatologists as sensitisers, the majority of which will never have been assigned H317 (may cause an allergic skin reaction).

You should use guidance from your trade body as British Coatings Federation (BCF) for your risks assessment if you are in UK. https://www.coatings.org.uk/Publications/Health_and_Safety_Publications.aspx Number of publication HS015 Cheers
