Looking for advice on what controls would be needed. I have a water bath that is constantly set at 25°C. It has not been cleaned as far as i am aware in years. It has a lid (not well sealed) that gets lifted daily to check the level and operatives pour in additional tap water to raise the level if needed (not needed often). In terms of legionella risk and controls what would people recommend?

What is it used for? What is the turnover of water like? Have you had sampling undertaken previously? Is there an element where sprays/mists/ spores can be created?

A gas hose runs through it so the gas is warmed to a standard temperature for conducting tests. They probably top the water up a bit about once a month but check it daily before testing at the moment. I dont believe it has ever been properly cleaned out and just keeps getting topped up and it doesnt look particularly clean. There may be splashes when pouring water in to top up. Ive read on some university documents that have a lot of water baths in their labs that they heat all water baths to 60 degrees for 30 minutes every month and have them cleaned once a month. No sampling has been undertaken previously. Edited by user 28 June 2019 07:19:31(UTC)

Can you not just heavily chlorinate the water and have it tested periodically to see that any bacteria levels are low? Or perhaps have UV light in the tank? Without knowing your tank set up, volume of water and turnover etc, it is hard to advise.

You can get biocides for tanks and baths that don't affect most testing so I suggest you as a biocide manufacturer to advise the best biocide for your application and this should solve the problem.
