Hi
My organisation is looking to develop someone into a H&S role to chartered status We are looking at possibilty of employing an apprentice, but looking at the standard it is a 2 year programme.
At the end of the 2 years you are can only apply for Tech membership at IOSH. There does not seem to be a further path to achive "Chartered Status",does that mean we would they then have to go on and spend 5K on training to pass the diploma ? Would it make sense just to send them on the Diploma training course which could also be 2 years but at the end of it they would be able to apply for IOSH full membership.... and eventually "Chartered status"
Have any members had any experience of developing someone into H&S , and what have there experiences been ..would be most interested. Thanks in advance

The apprenticeships aim is to give a foundation. No different from someone obtaining a NEBOSH General certificate both are level 3 quals. You then would need to develop the individual through and NVQ, NEBOSH Diploma or NRCQ Diploma which would be level 6 and then moving through from tech IOSH to Grad IOSH and then onto CMIOSH.

Confined - the various possible routes to CMIOSH are illustrated in a flow chart which you can download from the Membership pages on this website. If you start someone at the bottom of the ladder, it's going to take considerable time for them to get Chartered status, whatever the route. There are no short cuts.
