We have found a black mold problem in one of the toilets in our Day Care facility. The water has been leaking behind wall panels and a great deal of black mold has formed. The Day Care facility does have persons with compromised immune systems and conditions like COPD attending. For the moment the toilet is locked off.
Our intendition is to remove any of the timber, plasterboard and MDF that is infected with the mold. We are intending to use the approrpritae PPE and seal the room off during the work.
My big question is should surrounding areas be evacuated during the works and if so long how long after the materials have been disturbed should it be before persons of a potentially higher risk should be allowed back into the area? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The issue is with airborne spores - washing down with a proprietary mold killer should minimise spread during the removal works Similar to dust handling pick the correct RPE and damp down dry areas

As Roundtuit has said, treat with a mold killer prior to touching any of the affected materials and keep spraying / treating as you go to reduce the likelihood of spores being released during the work.
