Hello IOSH community.

Quick question -  a leisure centre is undergoing significant shower refurbishment and what I need to know as part of the Pre-Construction Information development - would the PCI need to include a legionella Risk Assessment?

Many thanks in advance for all replies.

The leisure centre in question should already have a legionella risk assessment, schematics as they apply to the installation and records of regular water testing (all are legal requirements).  Would these documents not suffice for the PCI ?

Thanks for your reply, I'm mindful that the Principal Contractor must develop there Construction Phase Plan around all available information including the sigificant findings of a Legionella RA or schematics as you mention - the objective here is to provide as much info as possible to the appointed PC who may not be so proficient with such unaccustomed matters.

I'd hate for the PC to be exposed to matters relating to incidents such as Barrow -in-Furness due to a lack of info.

If it already exists, is up to date and records are sufficient then it should do, I can't see a need to do another. Don't forget it is an ideal opportunity to check if improvements which were not reasonably practicable before could be made during the changes, and of course if changes are significant then the RA needs to be updated afterwards.

If there isn't one or it is not sufficient or current then absolutely I would say you need one before anyone disturbs anything, or you could be exposing a nightmare.
