Good morning everyone,

My company has several warehouses around the UK and our managers have been approached by suppliers of first aid equipment who say that they must have critical injury kits.

The St. Johns website says that the packs are suitable for workplaces using dangerous machinery, sharp instruments etc.

Can anyone help me find any better guidance to decide which workplaces require such a kit?

Many thanks

Suppliers can't tell you what you require in your first aid kit. Only your risk assessments can tell you that. This is just a sales ploy.

By the same extension we would not be able to advise you on what to put in it. Have a look at what hazards you have, what injuries they are likely to cause and stock you first aid kit appropriately. For example if you have a high risk of chemical splashes getting into the eyes you will want eye wash stations and eye wash in the first aid kit. If you have a high risk of cuts, then you will need ample varieties of bandages and plasters. etc. If you have equipment that operates at a high temperature, you will need burns dressings and clingfilm.

Remember to also take into account the number of people in your assessment. More people=more risk.
