18,000 L Oil Storage Tank - Immersion Heater

Morning all, Hoping for someone to point me in the right direction please. We have an 18,000 litre oil tank on site which is heated through submersing an electric immersion heater. The heaters are known as an 'over the side' heater. The heater is dropped inside the tank and seated in the oil. The process oil is heated to approx. 80 degrees. The elements inside the heater have been replaced and we are now in the process of reviewing the risk assessment. The electrical supply is fed from the mains (3 phase, 415 Volt, 30 Amp) and an RCD installed. My current thinking is to have the immersion heater pressure tested to ensure it can withstand the pressure inside the tank and also to ensure the unit doesn’t leak. I am currently reviewing the SDS to identify the flash point. I just wanted to speak to others who have a better insight into this or have encountered a situation like this before? Any guidance at all is much appreciated. Thanks James

Hi,
Does the heater have any thermostatic controls, normal and/or high temperature cut-out? This will be a factor for your Risk Assessment.
