Hi
Interested in hearing how often you do OH reviews for staff operating ROPT/PPT. HSE guides seems to indicate not required for staff under 45

from my understanding and research, there is no requirement for this to be conducted L117 - http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l117.pdf 53 - HSE is not prescriptive about the need for medical assessment for fitness to drive lift trucks and there is no legislation relating directly to this topic. However, you may choose to screen potential operators before placement and then follow the guidelines for Group 2 licences in At a glance which require medical examination every five years from age 45, and every year from age 65 (in line with licence renewal periods). Always seek medical advice where there is any doubt about a person’s fitness to operate a lift truck.

We have always followed the class 2 licence rules but you would be surprised how many people don't have a regular eyetest and how many people we discover need to wear glasses to operate the equipment but don't!!

To get round the argument of whether it is legally required or not, as we still have a duty to protect other staff...I have classed these workers as Safety critical workers and under the OH policy each get the same medical that they would get for a cat 2 licence. Other places I have visited do not do the same but still carry out eyesight checks at the same time as licence/training renewal.
