Managers and Supervisors in the UK construction Industry attend a 5-day Course SMSTS (Site Managers Safety Training Scheme). Keen to hear your views on 2 questions
- Why is the construction industry not doing/promoting the IOSH SHECSM course instead?- (Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers).
- Are there any disadvantages of taking IOSH SHECSM instead of CITB’s SMSTS Course
Any thoughts?
I believe IOSH SHECSM is much better for the following reasons: - The IOSH SHECSM is approved by Build UK
- IOSH is recognised worldwide, CITB is only in UK
- IOSH is 4 days (plus assessment), SMSTS is 5 days.
- The book for IOSH is £15 (if over 250 its £12). CITB £106.50 (delegates book £27.00 plus GE700 £79.50)
- IOSH certificates is £20, CITB Certs are £37.5

1) Because CITB is the national training body funded by the training levy 2) PQQs often refer to qualifications from the CITB list rather than what is more widely available
