A bit of a hyerthetical question.

My question is "would it ever be acceptable for an excavator operator to drop the load / empty the bucket in to an area they could not see"?

This is not something I'm planning on doing but is related to an incident I heard about. My own answer would be, possibly yes, but only with strict controls, i.e. the drop zone fully secured in advance and a second operative who could see both the plant operator and the drop zone controlling to operation.

Any further thoughts by those with more experience in this area would be apprecaited.
