Hi all - just wondering if any has any regs etc they can point to regarding these? We have a variety of buildings with one chair regardless of need. However in one building we have 3 chairs for 3 potential users, all of whom work different shift patterns. We are shortly having a 4th potential user starting work. I am wondering if we need 4 chairs or not. We have a refuge point, but no fire proof stairwells or lifts in that particular building..

Morning,
Afraid its not down to regs in this case. Its a matter of risk assessment and findings from drills. Your planning needs to assume that you can evacuate everybody in the event of a fire, that's your starting point, now you need to carry out at least one drill, using the chairs, and see what happens. Refuge points should only be used to keep people safe until you can evacuate them or move them to a place of relative safety, with plans for further evacuation if the fire spread continues to threaten them,
