Hi,
I am just seeking a bit of clarification if possible on the changes that were made to the PPE regulations. The way I understand it our PPE suppliers have to either send or make available to us a certificate of conformity for the PPE that they supply us with. We have received or been sent a download link by a couple of suppliers which would seem to support my thoughts on how the changes work, but we have one supplier who has sent an email saying that they know nothing about the changes, the certification or any such requirements. This is a national company not a small local supplier who might not be aware of things.

As I read these regulations they place various new charges on the manufacturer and/or supplier. None of these are particularly relevant when it comes to selection and use of gloves especially when these are for protection when selecting against chemical hazards. So I would not spend too much time worrying about whether someone has sent you an e-mail that will be of virtually no use to you. In fact with chemicals neither are the EN standards very helpful unless you understand how limited, and potentially capable of providing you with misleading information these are. These changed in April 1998 but I still find suppliers sending out gloves that do not conform to the current standard!
The selection and use of gloves for chemical protection is far more complex (and often uncertain) than many realise. If you need more on this PM me with an e-mail address and I will send you a more detailed explanation. Chris
