I notice that you haven't had a reply to your query; probably because you haven't given many details!
I work as a consultant & all my clients are on a retainer basis. However, the amount they pay depends on what they want me to do for them & how many days per month they want me to work on their behalf.
Once you have this information, you can work out how much you are prepared to accept after factoring in the need to pay tax; NI; PL & PI insurances, travel expenses, etc.
Sorry I couldn't be more precise with an actual figure.

...and to add to Zyggy's comments things like how much insurance cover and whether this should include asbestos, or in the States mold (deliberate typo!).
What you need would depend on what type of construction and many other variables.

I offer my clients 2 options. A set retainer fee which is paid every month and then a daily rate, or a higher retainer and then a discount on the first days work and then back to normal daily rate for all other days. eg. £25/month and £300 day OR £45/month, Day 1 is £255, Day 2 and on is £300
You've got to work out which is best for you and the client. Some months I make and some I lose on the retainer but overall I'm happy
