I work at a chemical manufacturing company and there are currently ground floor changing rooms that are being renovated. I have been asked if another storey was added to these changing rooms, to make more room for changing and possibly showers, would a set of single stairs be enough for escape during a fire.

I am looking at Fire safety approved document B:Volume 2: Buildings other than dwellings:Section 3 design for verticle escape: Single escape stairs 3.3: g. Process plant buildings with a maximum of 10 people.

Am I correct in thinking that because some equipment used for the processing of flammable liquids will be in the same building as these changing rooms that this section 3.3.G will apply and therefore the upper level of the changing rooms can only have a maximum of ten people in at any one time?

Or would it come under 3.3.D just as a building?

Your designer should have the information for you.....however yes you are correct...but if the new structure is over 11m in height then two means of escape are required... :)
